The best part of living in Switzerland is that all the tourist attractions are so close to each other that this country is a living paradise. Right at the center are the beautiful Alps which give this country its true beauty, in terms of landscapes and the climate. Amongst the various cities in this country, Basel is a good option for settling down as it has many industries where work is not a problem. This city is situated on the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France and Europe's oldest hotel, the Three Kings on the Rhine is located here. Bern is another option, for you to consider, and being the capital, finding work shall not be a problem for most. This city is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world with mesmerizing scenic beauty. The third option is the city of Geneva, which is considered the 8th most important financial center globally. Besides being tremendously beautiful, it is also considered the 4th most expensive city in the world. A global city, the list of international organizations here is infinite. Lake Zurich and the numerous art galleries provide much-needed recreation for those who want to have the best of both worlds.
Mediterranean Islands
Mediterranean Islands
If you're looking at the most beautiful places to live in the world, in order to retire, this option is perhaps the best I can suggest. The Mediterranean islands are all those islands that are a part of the Mediterranean sea. This means, you have islands from as many as 4-5 countries to choose from. Each island here is equally serene and much more than the superlative degree of beautiful, if there is any. Some of the islands you can choose from are Sicily and Sardinia in Italy and Corsica in France. Corsica is one of the least developed area in the Mediterranean and is thus not at all spoiled. This makes it a very good option if you want to retire amongst other options such as Majorca in Spain and Lesbos and Rhodes in Greece. More than half the population of Majorca is engaged with the tourism sector in one way or the other, showing us the relaxed lifestyle they must be accustomed to. Lesbos is a place you should choose only and only if you're willing to live completely without the feeling of being in a proper town whereas on the contrary, Rhodes has it all for you. Beautiful landscapes, sites and we certainly can't forget the Palace of the Grand Master that only adds to the beauty.
Paris
Paris
Yes, Paris is the largest city in France and one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe but it is still and will always remain one of the most beautiful cities on the face of this Earth. Every person, no matter what his/her age, or the purpose for which he/she wants to settle in a different city, Paris certainly is the most favorite. Though the population is a problem for most, the mesmerizing architecture and the number of World Heritage Sites it boasts of, make living here, all in all, a good experience. Paris is situated on the Seine river, and in 2009, it was one of the most influential cities in the world and also one of the top three European cities of the future according to Financial Times. If there was an all-rounder in cities, it would undoubtedly be Paris. Right from education to fashion and from media to science, it's influential in almost every sector, that too to a great extent. However, one important note here is that along with being one of the most beautiful places to live, this city is also considered one of the most expensive cities to live in. Also, if you would be living in this city, you would host a total of 45 million tourists or more every year.
Italy
Italy
Italy's Quality of Life Index is ranked in the top ten in the entire world and is also globally the 23rd most developed country. In Florence, manufacturing/producing and commerce are dominant sectors while tourism beats them to the first spot with some amazing sites and landscapes, the Boboli gardens being a fine example. Your third option here would be Milan which has again, some of the oldest and most beautiful monuments in the world, the Duomo of Milan, Sforza Castleand St. Ambrose Basilica being fine examples and then of course, we all have heard of the Milan Fashion Week, haven't we?
Seattle
Seattle
Seattle, along with Minneapolis, is one of America's most literate cities today. The numerous cruises and festivals here, make the state even more beautiful than it already is. Amongst others, the two most famous festivals are the Seattle International Film Festival and the Northwest Folklife, the earlier one being a reputed festival that lasts a total of 24 days and the later being a traditional, cultural art and craft festival held at the Seattle Center over the Memorial Day. The Penny Arcade Expo is another gaming convention that is awaited every year. Sports here are another element that make this state beautiful as they have teams for every sport possible. Seattle, though being populated, is one of the best cities to live in only because of the immense cultural exposure. The Green Lake Park and the Space Needle are two major tourist attractions here. Finding work or starting up a new business, however small, has more probability of working in this state than any other in the United States of America. It's a hub for start-up businesses and maintained a strong economy even during the recession. New Zealand
New Zealand
New Zealand is another country that has unmatched scenic beauty throughout the country. There are four cities in this country that are beautiful places to live in, starting with Auckland which globally ranks 4th for its quality of life index among 215 other major cities. It is the industrial hub of the country with mild climate the year around. Housing includes Victorian villas and palatial waterfront estates with estates on the Waitemata being particularly famous. This city is blessed with heavy rainfall and mild climate that normally does not stoop below 4 degrees Celsius or rise above 25 degrees Celsius and is windy throughout. Christchurch is option three. Here, the lifestyle is pretty much relaxed with agriculture being the key sector in the economy. The ski fields and numerous gardens, which also give it the name The Garden City make it a tourist attraction and a recreational hub too. It also has an active tramway system. However, if you are a student, you should opt for Hamilton, which has a huge student population and an equally thriving lifestyle.

The old city consists of old architectural houses, markets and streets while new satellite areas such as Gurgaon provide employment on a very large-scale. A cosmopolitan city, it has mostly high income groups. Among other attractions, the Akshardham temple (largest Hindu temple in the world) and the Jama Masjid (largest mosque in India) are considered most beautiful by many. The Islamic architecture is present in most parts of the city and only adds to its beauty. Option two, is the city of Mumbai, previously known as Bombay. Here, you would find some of the richest people in the country (and the world) and some of the poorest too. Any list of beautiful places will be incomplete if it didn't include Australia. The first option here would be the city of Sydney, which is the 16th most expensive city globally, and home to many Victorian era buildings. It boasts of approximately 70 ocean and harbor beaches and some 90 banking institutions which shows us the perfect equilibrium it maintains between a relaxed lifestyle and a competitive commercial sector. Home to a number of national parks such as the Royal National Park (world's 2nd oldest), it also caters to entertainment needs with a variety of shops at Surry Hills and Darlinghurst. The second option here is the capital city of Canberra which is one of the most planned cities in Australia and also one with hardly any unemployment (3.9% in 2010). It is home to some of the most elite bars and nightclubs; the median age of residents here, being only 34. Brazil

Brazil is a country that attracts the youth like no other, isn't it? My first option for in this country would be the city of São Paulo which also happens to be the largest city in Brazil. Not only is it the largest city, it's also one of the top 5 largest metropolitan areas in the world. If ever buildings could make a place look beautiful, it would be those of Sao Paulo and all you need to do, is to see the skyline of Paulista Avenue to believe me. This city has globally the 3rd highest density of buildings. Option two would be the city ofSalvador, also famous as Brazil'scapital of happiness given the infinite street carnivals and parties. The Carnaval of Salva is considered as the largest street party in the world. The Salvador skyline and the beautiful beaches show us how living here would give us the best of both worlds. My third option for you would be the city of Rio de Janeiro, known very rightly as the Marvelous Citywhich is famous given the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer. It was Brazil's capital for a very long time until Brasilia took its place. Housing here includes 16th to 19th century houses combined with contemporary renowned designs of the 20th century. The Portuguese Imperial family resided here and thus the architecture is worth an experience. Option four would be undoubtedly the city of Brasilia which has nothing less the 122 foreign embassies. The quality of life in this city is very high compared to others and it also has efficient transit facilities with cuisine to die for. On the other hand, if you are looking for a quieter city, and one that would give you the feeling of living away from everyone and yet have a surreal beauty, you should check out Ouro Preto, a city that is surely on my list of most beautiful places to live in the world.
Canada

My last option is Canada, without which the list would miss out on some really beautiful places. My first option here is the capital city ofOttawa which is also known as theSilicon Valley North. The city is home to many museums, most of which are famous internationally. If you plan to live here, you would be able to witness the Winterlude Festival on the Rideau Canal in winter, and in July, you would be able to see the National Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill. Recreational activities such as canoeing and kayaking are also famous. Option two is Quebec City which is one of the oldest cities in the entire continent of North America. If you ever happen to see the Quebec City's skyline, you would imagine a kingdom straight out of a fairy tale. The carnivals in this city are as beautiful as the city itself. Option three would be the city of Torontowhich happens to be the largest city in Canada and is also considered as its financial capital. An international center for finance, this city is also globally ranked 12th in the Innovation Cities Top 100 Index by 2thinknow for economic innovation. The row houses here are particularly famous with some being really old. Sports are also given a lot of attention in this city with many renowned teams. The last option here and in this entire list would be the city of Vancouver which is also called Hollywood Northgiven its thriving film industry. One of the warmest cities in the country, it is also famous for software development and biotechnology. TheGranville Entertainment District has many pubs and nightclubs that form a very important part of the overall culture.
